This exhibition begins with a supposition: we are living the past’s future dreams.
The rapid advance of technology between the 1950s and 1980s gave rise to a vision so enduring that we still think of the future in its terms. Yet that future – our present – is here, and we create with the tools we have available. These tools exist in a place between the past’s dream, the reality of the now and the shared vision of what’s to come.
SWDZ invited designers and collectives to present work that explores this concept of Superposition. Using the tools of today – the internet, new media, interactive technology, and advances in materials and production such as 3-D printing – the selected works interrogated the relationship between past and present visions of the future.
