Alex Chinneck finds inspiration in the natural geometric textures of chipboard to create works of hyperbolic energy, mirrored in this exhibition by two kinetic works. Showcasing the natural grains and colours of maple, beech and purple heart woods, these exquisitely crafted works display an unexpectedly playful side, evoking collective associations of portals and parallel worlds. Juxtaposing the work of these two emerging artists, the exhibition explores the relationship between materiality and the imagination.

London based artist Alex Chinneck takes sculpturally complex routes to arrive at playful visual moments. His work takes architectural form through a process of subversion that highlights its poetic potential. Materials used for functional applications and structures are re-negotiated through complex, labour intensive processes (the repetition of which plays upon decorative qualities). He is also the Creative Director of The Sculpture House, a platform that enables emerging artists to produce innovative items of furniture.
Solo exhibitions include 2011 Quicksand Jacuzzi, So Far The Future, London 2011 Fighting Fire With Ice Cream, See Studio, London. Group exhibitions include 2012 Fabricators, Hannah Barry Gallery, London and the 2010 UK Young Artists Award, The Arc, Derby.
